Metabolic Gene Expression During the Period of Hibernation in Indian Common Toad Duttaphrynus melanostictus (Schneider, 1799)

Suman Pratihar

Abstract

In the present study it was tried to investigate the metabolic gene expression (hexokinase, lipase, and monoglyceride lipase) pattern in Indian Common toad, Duttaphrynus melanostictus. Hexokinase expression was 40% less as compared to non-hibernating phase and no significant difference in the expression of lipase and monoglyceride lipase. During hibernation the metabolism was mostly lipid dependent.
