New Turtle from the Early Cretaceous of Central Asia

L. I. Khozatsky

Abstract

Remains of turtles were found in the Lower Cretaceous (Barremian) of the Tugulu Group (Hutubin Formation) in the Tukhun-Kho locality, Jungarr Basin, Xinjiang Province, the People’s Republic of China early in 1940. Soon they were lost, but the photograph and a series of drawings were preserved. Now turtles are described, they belong to a new species ?Sinemys efremovi sp. nov. (Sinemydidae), which differs from the other known representatives of the genus by a strong posterior curvature of the distal parts of the 7th and 8th costal plates, larger suprapygal first plate, and by the relatively wider postero-medial parts of the hypoplastra.
