Skin Receptors of Laudakia (Agamidae, Sauria) with Some Comments about Scalation of Asian Rock Agamids

Abstract


The structure of scale and receptors in the integument of six species of Laudakia (L. caucasia, L. chernovi, L. erythrogastra, L. himalayana, L. lehmanni, and L. stoliczkana) has been studied. The comparison of the integument and the skin receptors was made using the methods of histology and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The variation in scale morphology (papillous scales and scales with jagged margins) in L. caucasia and L. erythrogastra have been noted. The comparison of receptors density for the unit of the square on the ventral and dorsal surface and among different species shows the association of receptors density and number of scales around the midbody of Asian rock agamids.
