New Data on Tropiocolotes cf. steudneri (Peters, 1869), (Sauria: Gekkonidae) in Southern Iran

Abstract


Anderson (1999) reported an isolated population of Tropiocolotes cf. steudneri in southern Iran, based on examination of limited material, all collected around a harbor, however, little information is available on the morphology, distribution and taxonomy of this rare gecko in southern Iran and the natural distribution of Tropiocolotes steudneri in southern Iran is doubtful. In this paper, three specimens from two more new localities in southern Iran have been examined. These new data extend the distribution of T. cf. steudneri in southern Iran up to the high arid steppes of southern Zagros. The morphology of the collected specimens, as well as their habitat, is discussed.
