Histomorphological Study of the Female Genital System in Two Closely Related Mountain Newts in Iran (Salamandridae: Neurergus microspilotus and N. kaiseri): with the Special References to Follicular Stage

Anatomy and histology of the female genital system of two closely mountain newts are studied. In both species the histology of reproductive system are the same, a thin layer of tunica albuginea covers the ovary. According to morphological characteristics the follicular stage in these two species can be divided into three main phases: the previtellogenic, vitellogenic and mature oocytes phase. During previtellogenic phase, the oocytes show homogenous strong basophilic ooplasm, nucleoli migrate beneath the nucleolemma and cortical alveoli are appeared. In the vitellogenic phase, the nucleonemma becomes convoluted and yolk droplets appear. In the mature phase an increase in the oocytes size and migration of the nucleus to the animal pole happens. The oviducts in these species are a pair of highly convoluted tubes, which are placed ventral to the vertebral column, from base of lung to cloaca. Oviducts can be divided into three parts according to their morphological characteristics: infundibulum, ampula and ovisac. The oviduct is composed of a luminal mucosa, a lamina propria, a circular muscle layer, and an outer serosa.
